The origin of First Friday goes back to the tradition and practice of Sacred Heart devotion which calls for a monthly renewal of ones faith to a more lively and personal response to God's love realized in both worship and mission. To live more fully in the awareness of God's love and presence in our daily lives and to answer our baptismal call of being sent on a mission to proclaim the good news of God's love, the Gospel. First Friday Clubs are often scheduled as such in keeping with this long standing Catholic cultural tradition of Sacred Heart devotion, while raising an awareness of the spiritual, theological, moral and social issues of the times. In his apostolic exhortation on Evangelization in the Modern World Pope Paul VI stated, "the split between the Gospel and culture is the drama of our times."
